Clearcoated headlights?

Clearcoated headlights?
I am a few short weeks from changing to 01 Lightning headlights,but one thing has always puzzled me about my factory models. I don't know when this happened,because I bought the truck used. The headlights look as if they were clearcoated,also not very professionally,either. There are specks of dust and other junk on them. Is this just someones attempt at making them look better? I do believe this truck was used at an oilfield or similar worksight,the foot pad on the drivers side is permanently stained an orangey brown. Maybe they were trying to keep the lights protected from the same thing? I'm about to change soon anyway,so it's not a big issue. I'm just curious,,,,98

Do you have these 2001 headlamps yet? I'm also interested in them but I'm not sure if you need a v.i.n. number to get them. I asked the parts guy where I work (ford dealer) and he said he didn't know without ordering them. He said they would be about $80 a piece. I'm waiting till the truck I ordered comes in.

Don't have them yet. The guy at my dealer didn't say a word about a restriction on the sale. I don't think Ford cares either way,as long as they make a profit on them ,,,,98
