Side View Mirror
Has anyone replaced their side view mirror on the passenger side before? These are the el cheapo model plastic one's that are manual. I misjudged the distance between me and a cattle gate at a higher rate of speed, and my mirror is now in a low orbit above Earth. How much work is it to replace, or is this one that's worth it to let the body shop handle?

Ha good one! My excuse was slipping off the running board and landing on it while trying to dry off the top of the windshield. Sorry, I don't know how to fix it. Mine didn't fall all the way off, it's just shaky in the wind.

I had the same one replaced, but mine was the electric mirror. I ended up going to Ford to buy it, believe it or not, they were cheaper than the junkyard, and it looked pretty complicated. The cover on the inside of the door comes off, the one right on the other side of the mirror, and there are screws there that hold it in. I would assume that if it was a manual mirror, that there would be nothing to plug in, but I am not for sure. Much like you, I hit a cattle gate with mine (weak smile). It was easier to let ford do it, they charged me 36 dolars an hour for labor, and it was a 1 hour job.
For $36, I may let them do it and just save myself the headache of tearing the door apart. You've got to watch out for those cattle gates. They'll get you as soon as you're not looking.

Oh, it was definitely worth $36 for me, because I was afraid that I would break something and then I would be really screwed, because I am just paranoid about that kind of stuff. They did a great job, the mirror works perfectly, had no problems with it since, and they got it done so fast that I didn't even have enough time to look at all of the Mustangs on the lot. If you want to look for a mirror so they don't have to order it (the shop won't have it in stock, but they got mine in three days), a good place to look is carparts.com, they were fairly reasonable, or just go to any search engine and look for salvage yards. Most of them have a form, you tell them what you are looking for and they email you usually that day and tell you if they have it or not and the price. Like I said, though, check Ford's price before you buy, because they beat the next cheapest offer to me by over $100. Good luck, and yeah, cattle gates will wreak havoc on ya!

Well, looks like I am in the same boat as the Cow grates, but since I am in the city, mine was a parked car.
Thing is, my mirrors are electric and I didn't know about the Jack Screw or guide screws as I have seen them called. Well, I kept on going and didn't get the jack screws. I went and bought the replacement glass mirror from a Ford dealer, but low and behold, there isn't any jack screws with the mirror, as the assembly instructions say to use the old one.
WTF! Why would I buy the mirror, if I didn't need to replace it? Stupid Ford Employees. To think, I want to work for that company. jeez.
Anyone know where I could just buy the jack screws?
I don't care to buy the whole assembly, since I have already spent the $40 for the glass.
I tried some junk yards in the area, but most of them won't let me just go through the yard or at least the ones with the trucks any ways.
Thanks,
Rich

Someone hit mine last night and I have the electrical one. I only needed to replace the mirror and I decided to do it myself... took me about 45min and it is very easy to break. The mirror itself (without housing) cost me $60 from Ford!!

yup, sure does, but at least you had the jack screws still there to do the job. I can't, so I am sitting with an empty mirror on my passenger side.
Guess it happens more often than people might think. Try not to park on the road, if possible.
