I removed the ORP and all the Lariat decals when my truck was about two weeks old. I don't like washing and waxing around them, they clutter up the body in my opinion.
You need to first get the body sheet metal and decal warm, not hot, you could damage the paint. I didn't need any heat to remove mine. You might try a hair dryer instead of a heat gun, they usually have a lower temp and a wider output fan area. Start on an edge and try to peel it back on its self and pull gently. It may come off in sections, if it breaks don't panic just start again and take your time. Once it is all removed use a cleaner-wax such as Meguiar's 1216, 3M's adhesive cleaner 08984 or a wax and silicone remover such as RM 900 to remove the glue residue. I would rather use multiple applications of a mild product than a too aggressive chemical once. Like most things just take your time and try to be patient. I have removed many decals and stickers from a variety of vehicles with no paint damage.
Good luck

If the decal is old and brittle and won't peel off, try soaking the edge of it with the 3M cleaner to soften the glue.

Thanks both Ghz and lightningcrashz for your help. I've investigated the new decal and yes, it's available for ~$25; so meantime while I'm waiting for the nice warm day, I'll ****** one up before Ford changes their mind.

One question as to the products mentioned - what's RM900?

RM is a brand in the BASF family, similar to DuPont or PPG, 900 is the part number. It's a silicone wax remover, used before bodywork or painting, also works to remove tar from paint. I've used the 3M product to soften the adhesive on the foam backed emblems prior to removal, also a good tar remover especially on the lower panels of light colored paint. RM 900 is about $23 a gallon, the 3M product is about $9 a quart at an auto paint store.

Post ORP decal replacement

I've got a peeling ORP decal on my newly bought used 97 F250. Peeling is from the top down, just starting, want to get it fixed up soon...

I don't have any experience on decal r/r techniques, and it's a real nice truck - I want to do this right.

Anyone have any experience / thoughts? Particular products to be used? How to get the old one off cleanly? (Heat gun seems the answer but I don't want to screw up my black paint to boot).

(BTW, this thread seemed more apprpriate than the dedicated F250 one - puhleeze don't banish me!).

I ordered Silver ones from www.fordpartsonline.com They're out of California. You can request a quote by description, then order by quote confirmation number. I had mine in less than 2 weeks from time of original inquiry. For 1 ORP decal, it is $14 and some change plus shipping. They're cheaper than going to the dealer. They cut you an "Internet Break" on the price...kinda. I looked into replacing all factory striping from red/gold to black/silver....OUCH!!! Would cost me $170 for everything, and I would have to do the install. I might just take all of them off completely. Cleaner looking anyway. Good luck, and welcome to the boards.
