Overhead Console Installation

Thinking of buy a used overhead console(with temp/compass display) from a later model f150 and installing it in my 97 f150 ext. cab that does not have an overhead. Anyone ever done this and know what is involved and how hard it would be to install? Thanks. Jim

did the '97s have the overhead as an option? if so, the wiring might be there, no guarentee on the sensors though.

if you truck is not wired for it, getting power up there will be the first thing.

Then you need sensors, if i remember correct the temp sensor is in the front, also ties into the wheel or some other speed sensor too.
Not sure if the compass is self contained or not.

Best bet would be to get a detailed manual from a truck that has one and run through the wiring diagrams.

Thanks. I think the compass is self contained. What about the actual mouting of the console? Have nightmares of running a screw up through the roof!!!!!!

did you get it installed?
if not, maybe glue a couple strips of wood to the underside of the roof, then predrill and screw into that?

I looked into this matter a while back and just so happened to save this link:

Granted the mod was done to a Ranger not an F150, but it gives a good idea of one way to skin that cat.
