kmmon1,

As a couple of us have posted in another thread...even the manual window owners are experiencing this problem. I also agree..I am sure that more owners with power windows have this problem...but I would guess that most of the owners without the door cracks...do not use their windows (or have newer models)!

I have certainly noticed the flexing of the door skin when the window is used.

I sure hope a recall from FORD is announced soon.

181 days ago, my '97 had a crack on both doors (42K miles and 2.75 yrs).

So far, for the Y2K, 181 days without a crack (kow).

No door cracks...

'99 Supercab XL w/ 12k miles...

I've been suspecting that when the doors are slammed shut, this is the cause of the cracks.

No cracks or rust at 3k miles. Use the crap out of my power windows and am keeping a close eye out for this problem.

hey concerning the door cracks----i have a friend who is a service manager and he told me that the new word from ford is that there is no recall coming but if the customer pushes enough they will fix the crack. they have no definite answer on how to accomodate the customer so it might get quite creative. He says that some dealerships are just replacing the doors--in or out of warranty.

Dustoff 05-29-2000 07:29 PM

I bet they will certainly have a new style door for the redesigned 2003 model F-150! Like the Supercrew or Expedition doors. I am sure FORD has realized it would cost too much money to redesign the door and recall millions of F-150s. With most customers not aware of this problem...it is cheaper to fix them on a case-by-case basis.

Does the F-150 (97-present) have a 7-Year 100,000 warranty on the outer body? I was reading a few post about people talking about a out of warranty repair and thought that the 3/36 warranty would not apply to the cracks because they would be considered in the 7/100 rust warranty ?

Any insight would be appreciated

Dustoff 05-30-2000 11:55 AM

I believe that is the rust through warranty..where the rust would actually have to put holes through the metal. I don't think the door cracks would be covered under this portion of the warranty. I am assuming FORD is allowing the out of warranty fixes to the doors because it is such a big problem..and cheaper than a massive recall. Just my opinion...

I see you are from Eau Claire...I am originally from Hudson. What kind of running do you do? I was a track/Cross Country runner in my younger days and at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls.

Dustoff

Regarding the out of warranty repair. I just purchased a used F-150 with 38000 miles. Do you really think ford is going to repair the crack? I could not get anything out of my local Ford Dealer. He said that the fix still had to be crash tested and "Lawyer" Approved before any word on a fix would be presented to the public. I also got the inpression because it is not a safety problem that it would not be a recall. I like my truck anyway and I have just put a lite touch up over it to prevent rust.

BTW, I grew up in NY and Moved to wisconsin a few years back. Most of my running now days is chasing my two girls 1 and 3.
I was a track/cross country runner in High School, never did it in college. Actually I run for exercise and Health, a 5k or 10k here and there.

800 miles and no cracks yet on the new truck... And I had no cracks on the traded in 97 F-150 4x4 Flareside XLT 4.6 with 25060 miles at trade in. I drive with window at least partway down all the time also, so used the crap out of the power windows.
