Just a footnote. I had the drivers door panel off to replace the speakers and I noticed that there had been an apparent attempt to "brace" the door immediately behind the crack itself. Since I bought used I don't know if this was an attempt to prevent further damage, or a supposed preventative move that failed.

Alright guys, I think this is just more than an isolated problem. I am a student at Oklahoma State University and on my way to class I walked by about 20 newer style F150's. All but 2 of them had the cracks on the drivers door. I work at a gas station and I am telling everyone I know about these. The dealership here in Stiilwater, OK has already had 4 more people since mine come in, I was their first. Lets keep up the line of info and make sure eveyrone gets this fixed.
|
Well, I just went and looked and I bet you can guess that I also have the crack on my drivers door, in the exact place that the picture showes, I have a '99 F150 sport, my boss has a 99 F250 LD, and another coworker has a 99 F150 XLT. we all have the cracks.
I called Ford and of course they said no replacement vehicle will be provided for the 3 days they need to fix the problem. If this is the way it plays out I guess I will have to go to chevy for my next truck. the Dealership I bought from, and will attempt to get taken care by is MiddleKauf Ford in Plano Texas. Good luck to everyone who finds this on their truck, it appears that Ford will take your money and sell you a truck. But if they have faulty engineering they drag their feet on a recall status. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE. ------------------ [This message has been edited by TexasSport (edited 08-30-2000).] |
No door crack(s) here yet.
But today I noticed how much the door is flexing if you open and close the windows. Geez!!! The more you use your powerwindows, the sooner you have those doorcracks ????? How is it possible that some 97 models don't have cracks and 99 models do have cracks and some trucks never will get them.Strange. As far as everyone talking about how fast the cracks appear the more you use your windows I have this to say. I did not spend 26K to not use my windows, when you make that kind of envestment EVERYTHING should work without question or worry that using something could cause something else to break. I am telling everyone I see with a F150 about this sight and the flaw, I also have contacted the News station here so maybe I can get some wide area coverage on this, maybe then ford will take notice.
but I'm not holding my breath |
Count me in...'97 F150XLT Supercab, 4.6 Windsor V8 (no slap, thank G*d), approx. 1/8" crack on driver's side door, no rust yet. Pax door OK. I will be taking it to a local dealer soon (it has 15,100 miles on it so far).

Well, my 97 with 59k miles on it has the ever-so slightest cracks forming at the
very edge of the weather stripping, barely visible. With regards to the supposed new preventative fix that is out, it'll probably be a while before it is publically available at all dealers (have to get it at the manufactoring plant first I'm sure), I'll just wait, keep paint sealer on it, and hope it doesn't rust. In a year or two, when the fix is common place and dealers admit it and take care of it, I'll have it fixed, even if they won't pay for it. ------------------ 97F150 XLT SC 4x4 Flairside 4.6 V8 5sp Dk Toreador Red, 3.55LS ARE tonneau cover, p255/70rx16 tires (came w/235), Superchip Pioneer CD w/4 Polk Speakers, skid plates bed liner, side window deflectors, reese hitch, K&N air filter 40s-2chamber Flowmaster, Bosch +4 spark plugs, rustproofing Better Built Stainless nerf bars heavy duty shocks |
My '97 XLT SC has driver's door cracked, rust in bottom of driver's door, and enough piston slap from the 4.6 to scare the neighborhood kids on cold mornings.
As much as I like my truck, if I had known about all of this when I was shopping I would not have bought one of these. Especially now with all of the tire problems going on, my guess is that Ford won't be doing much for us F150 owners (unless we can piggyback our concerns with the other bad publicity). |
Y2K F150, 3000 miles, no cracks yet and hope I won't have them for a while cuz I hardly ever use the windows.
By the way, I think they found a fix for it. My boss just rented an F150 with manufacturing date of 4/00 and the outside of the door didn't move when I rolled the window down . I still don't think there will be a recall but at least there is hope for future owners. ------------------ 2000 Supercab XLT 2WD 5.4L 3.55LS White w. grey interior, spray-in AND plastic bedliner, hitch Jeff Emig Special Edition Picture of my truck |
new5.4,
After reading your post..I went out to see if my truck (build 7/2000) also had doors that did not flex in the problem area. They do slightly. https://smilecwm.tripod.com/ruinkai/lightblueside.gif I can't really tell for sure if it is better than the 98 or the other 2000 (10/99) I use to own (I hope so). I'm sure that some flex is always going to be there. I'll just be careful for now when closing the doors and keep the window use to a minimum until FORD announces something (hell will freeze over first I am sure). ------------------ 2000 F-150 XLT, 4x2, 5.4L Supercab, LEV, Superchip, Styleside, Black with silver two-tone, 3.55 rear, class III towing package with heavy duty cooling package, Heavy duty shocks, 4 wheel disk ABS, overhead console, sliding rear window, keyless entry, dark graphite interior, in dash CD, factory leather wrapped steering wheel, FORD bedliner, FORD black tubular cab steps, K&N air filter, mar-hyde rubberized undercoating, Modine climate filtration system, Bugflector II, Mobil 1 oil and filter, Build date 7/00 [This message has been edited by Dustoff (edited 09-03-2000).] |
