Post captain chairs v. split bench?

Ok so I am at it again!!! The wife and I cant decided (yet) on which seating arrangement to put in our new F150 supercab. I am indifferent to either but like the full console of the captain chairs. Our little dog (25 lbs) would love to supervise from the middle of the split bench!

I am 6ft 2in and about 260 lbs, the wife is opposite of me, which is why we are spec'ing power adj pedals. and power driver seat.

I have driven an 2k expo with the captain chairs and yes they are very nice. The split bench is good, too. I get the "feeling" the driver side of the splitbench has more "wiggle room" for the seat of the pants.

So, what do you have/prefer/which you did have or didnt have? the cost isnt an issue here.

Karl,

I ordered the split bench mostly because I don't thing the Captain's chairs are very "truck-like". I thought they were comfortable, but I didn't like that you couldn't fit a person in the middle of the front if you needed to. Granted, this probably won't happen very often with a SuperCab, but I wanted the option. Also, I didn't notice much of a difference between the captain's chairs and the bench seat as far as comfort went. My two cents.

One other thing. I'm 6'1" and about 160 lbs., so that might make a difference with comfort.

Hi karl, I too am 6'2" and I like to rest my elbows on something when driving. One thing about my wife's Windstar that I hate is my elbow doesn't reach the armrest. It's a power 'Captains' chair. The armrest moves with the seat when the seat is raised or lowered. If your elbow doesn't reach the arm rest it never will. I have the power 40/60 seat in my truck and I drop the seat until I have a comfortable elbow rest on the folded down console. (That wouldn't help with your dog though)

Make sure you sit in a Captains chair and try out the armrest for the 'longhaul'.

One other comment, the Lariat comes with a power driver's seat so, I lucked out. If I had bought another trim line I might have passed on that option. I realize now that the power seat is probably the most important feature on my truck and the last one I would give up.

Hi Karl, I knew SorryBro would speak up on this one, just look at his sig.
I went with the captains chairs mostly for the sport look (I have a SPORT) and I wanted the extra storage of the console and I use it as my armrest. The one on the chair is a little flimsy. Your little dog could stand on that but it is slippery. Price was not an issue with me either but wasting money is. I'm very surprised RAOUL said he wouldn't give up power seats. I have them on my Lincoln (memory seats in fact) and never use it, set it, forget it. The only reason I considered power seat is to get the autolamp feature which I also have on the Lincoln and do miss it. My wife's cat (she claims he's mine) absolutly believes he's a dog. He likes to go for rides like your little dog even though he can't see out the windshield. I have tought this cat to sit, lay, come, beg, shake and working on fetch (not going well).David Letterman, here I come.
BTW, if you are considering a CD changer, you must get captains chairs, they mount it in the console.

jdf: Humm, that is interesting about where the cd changer is located, I didnt know about that. (your cat sounds interesting too!! Case of species confusion?)

The changer isnt a big deal with me, either. I was thinking of it because most of my road music is on tape and I HATE the thought of fiddling with cd's in the car (er, truck). That option apparently comes with tape player in the radio.

I have driven a y2k expo with capt chairs. Yes I do like the big console but am thinking and liking the armrest/console of the split bench.

We are getting both power seat and pedals mainly because I am tall and the wife is short. I do like the power seat. and the pedals, those are cool!

I plan on taking the wife to re-examine the seating issue before we make a decision. The salesman are probably getting sick of us.

thanks--

karl

Thumbs up

A decision of sorts! took the wife out to actually drive a rig or two. drove a expedition with the captian chairs, and a supercab with split bench. The result? I could go for either but she is short and said the captian chairs sit too high. Sitting in the pass seat her legs are bent too much and hurt her knees. Ergonomics--Something to think about!

She did like the split bench, esp with power, and the power pedals. I think our dog will like the split bench, too! ;-)

Hi JDF, I never adjust my seat either but, if it wasn't six way power I couldn't get it into the position it's in. I drop the back of the seat bottom all the way down and the front of the seat bottom all the way up. This creates thigh support and more closely feels like my recliner at home.

Karl-
I agree, you and your wife should decide which type of seat to get. I had a '97 F150 XLT with the captain chairs that I liked, but my wife hated. One of the reasons for trading it off. She likes the 3 person seating of the split bench/foldable armrest seat. One thing though, about the center console that comes with the captain chairs---it's big enough to hold a 6-pack of your favorite beverage!! Heh heh
