STX model

I know what the XLT, WL, Lightning, and Harly edition are but what makes a STX a STX?

HEY! You forgot KR!

Anyway, my understanding on the STX is that it has a different front clip (round fogs/painted valence) the STX stickers...

I believe it's a step up from XL before XLT.

I've got an '96 STX ranger. I have seen a few f-150 STX's also around here. With my ranger anyways, it's bigger and beefier. Larger tires, stonger rearend (i think and extra leaf spring also), front valance with fogs, although mine doesn't have color matched bumpers (they are titanium supposedly, or maybe thats just the color they are painted), painted plastics over the wheel wells and matching plastic running down the middle of the door (only seen this on one other ranger so far and it was also an stx but i've seen stx's without it too), 4.0L, stock manual hubs and manual t-case w/ manual tranny, power everything else including drivers seat. It also has a 1.5" lift from the factory. I've tried to get this question answered for years with no real luck. Seems nobody really has an answer. I asked the dealer salesperson about the 2004 f150 stx and she said it's the sport package, but isn't there a "sport" package called SPORT? Anyways, my feeling is that this stx is far better trim package than an xlt. My last ranger was an xlt and this stx kicks its butt all over place.

Here's a collage of my rangers. The red one is an stx the blue an xlt. Big difference.

bcmatzen, good place to check out the STX specs is the ford site. You can easily "build" the truck you want and there is info there about the STX option details. One thing the sporty STX does not have is a Tach. not even as an option.

Might be different for the f-150s, but my ranger does indeed have a tach.

STX = Sport touring?

Went to Ford site and your right, looks like the f150 stx is a pretty weak package. All I can say is, I'm glad my ranger is the way it is and I've never been in another that was nicer IMO.
