Unhappy Windshield crack

The other day driving home from work I was driving on the freeway. A rock got kicked up from the car in front of me and I ended up hitting it right in front of the driver's winshield. It put a hole and some small spider webcracks about 1/4"-3/8" outward. The hole is not all the way through because the inside of the windshield is still smooth. Is there a way of repairing it or do I have to get the whole windshield replaced?

How much for repairing? If possible.

Can I do it myself?

Where can I find repair kit? If there is such a thing.

How much for a new windshield replacement?

TIA

You could try the Loctite Bullseye Windshield Repair Kit. About $7 at parts stores. Its made for hits just as you described. It uses sunlight to cure the epoxy. Has complete and simple instructions.

Cool

There are several repair kits; some containing vacuum devices. I tried the J.C.Whitney one, it didn't get enough into the spider cracks. After speaking to a shop and my insurance agent, I found out the insurance company paid for repairs; no deductible. The glass shop had a nice, strong vacuum system w/ good repair materials. They said that they can repair chips up to the size of a nickel very well. The windshield shop evaluated the feasibility of the repair for free. Good Luck !

I had a stone hit a windshield of a car I had many years on my way to work it was a hot summer day when I went to go home there was a 8 inch long crack from the hole across the windshield I had to get a new one I was told the heat caused the windshield to crack from the hole the stone in it that morning.

Granpa, Max M, HMustang, Gary DB,
Thanks for the info. I'm going to see if I can find the repair kit you mentioned. If it doesn't work I'll have a glass company repair it and have my insurance pay for it. Since it's under $20 for the repair kit I'll give it a try first so I won't have to deal with my insurance company.
