Rust Revisted
I know there has been a lot of discussion on this topic but I haven't seen anything lately. I just wanted to say that I used the owner connection on Fords web site to place a complaint and after about 3 seperate e-mails the Ford representative decided to give me a call. He did not tell me anything that I haven't heard yet but just thought I would pass this on. He said that there is not a fix for the doors yet and had no idea of when there will be one. Then I asked them if my truck goes out of warrenty, would it still be covered and he said maybe not. He had told me that he talked to my local Ford dealership and they were not willing to create a service ticket on my truck because the Ford rep. he deals with does not like to do that. The customer service guy then told me that he was going to his supervisor to see if he could ensure my truck would be fixed even if it did go out of warrenty and he would get back to me. Still waiting for an answer to that question, but I am not going to hold my breath. So what is the next step?
I'm usually the first to defend Ford's handling of recalls and such but not this time. IMO Ford is dropping the ball on this door crack thing. It seems they are waiting for as many 97, 98 and early 99 trucks to go out of warranty before releasing a fix. This way the damage sustained will be minimal in terms of cost. Meanwhile, they hope the problem is fixed on later 99 and 2000 models so they won't be affected. Why else would they be saying that the later 99's and newer trucks are okay but there is no fix for the earlier models? Either way, the right thing to do is to fix ALL affected trucks regardless of warranty or model year. I hope Ford realizes this is a chance to look good to their customers after the whole tire fiasco! If anyone else has an idea as to why they would be waiting I'd love to hear it.
