Sorry forgot mustang hoods were plastic.
Still it would've looked crappy if they had
stripped it. wavy as hell. bumpers never
get stripped,It would take a whole day to do and that would be more than the cost
of the bumper itself. They usually just repair the damage and paint it.

JONC: I walked up the used truck part of the lot at the dealer where I bought my new truck and 6 out of 7 97+ F150's were cracked on the drivers side. It is true. I showed the salesman this and of course they had never heard of it.

FakeFVC: Newer Mustang hoods are not truely fiberglass or plastic, it's some composite material. Your bumper peeled because they didn't use the expensive paint designed for the plastic flexible parts, they just shot it with the same paint as the hood.

Thanks for the info 2000 F150 4x4

As you can see, I don't trust ford to work on my truck if it gets the door cracks. If there going to be lazy bastards and not use the right paint, I can only imagine if they have to weld on my truck door. No thanks..

Unhappy

I just purchased a 98 F150 Short Bed / Standard Cab, 4.6 auto with elec windows etc.

I knew nothing about the door cracks untill I visited this site. Checked my doors and shure enough the drivers door has a 1/4" crack, passenger door ok. If i had known about the cracks i would have rased heck and made them either fix it first or knock more off the price (which i got a good deal on anyway).

Would i have purchased it knowing the problem (Yes) only made them do something about it first. Oh well live and learn. Ford is still the best, just go by any transmission shop and see how many chevys and fords are there in the lot. The shop around from my house has no less than 5 to 10 chevys waiting for repair at all times and only 1 ford to 5 chevys not to mention the dodges. I still didnt go wrong getting an F150. Had my ranger for 10 years with 206k miles on it decided to upgrade. I didnt go wrong.

i own a 99sc xlt and have a door crack. mine has been fixed though. the probable cause of the crack are as follows. (this hypothesis was given by body shops around my town) my next door neighbor fixed my door. when you get out of your truck where do you place your hand? is it near the bottom of the glass above the door handle? if so i bet you have a door crack. look at your hand prints on your door. the next cause is the doors on the 97-00 f150's is structural integrity. the doors only have one support in the middle of the door. with a door this size and weight i beleive there should have been 2. the point the crack is happening at is a merger between a weak and strong point.the top half is stronger because it is much narrower than the bottom half of the door. (common sense)you wont see karate experts breaking a 8 in peice of 2x4! so the reasonable advice if you dont have cracks or have had yours fixed shut the door by the lower half it takes getting use to but IT WILL SAVE YOUR CRACK.

Saw a bumper sticker the other day. "why is the South so windy...Because the North sucks"

Hey, just reporting. Not my opinion...

By the way, when I traded my 97 (Manufactured date 3/96) this past February it still had no door cracks, had the exhaust in the stock location and the wheels were still perfect, ran like a dream amd the ESOF worked every time. Just goes to show ya.

jkscg, no, you did not make a mistake buying a Ford instead of anything else. These are the best trucks ever made, and Ford owners are generally nicer people than people who own any other kind of vehicle. I don't know why, but I know how I am treated, and I almost feel welcome here at this website, we're like one big family. I have had almost every kind of vehicle, from Chevy to Porsche, and my truck is by far the only thing I have ever had that doesn't make me want to trade. I think that the Ford trucks will have a fix eventually, and we will all be happy. Look at the Chevy site sometime, and you will feel great about your truck! My Dad bought a new Chevy (not because I didn't warn him, but he got a good deal), and he has had it in the shop twice already, and he hasn't had it a week with less than 300 miles on it. Ford is the best, probably always will be. Even a Chevy man would be converted after one test drive.
superchristian, I am a short guy, only about 5'7", and when I get out of my truck I reach down and close the door by the botom half of it, and I always end up with those little annoying fingerprints, but I have the door cracks on both sides. It is almost twice as big on the driver's side, but the impression that I get is that the worst cracks are on the driver's side of the extended cabs. That is a very good theory, and I don't claim to know what causes them, but I am figuring that it is just the stress of the door closing itself that eventually causes the cracks. I think that if you close the door the way you suggested, it may take longer for the cracks to appear, but I think that they will eventually happen no matter what because of how the door is made, because most people don't keep their hand on the door all the way anyway, we just do that little shove thing. I think that there isn't any support for that part of the frame, and I am thinking that the door cracks from the inside out, and that when it does crack, it was only the paint holding it together anyway by that time. Who knows, I may be so wrong that the light from right won't hit me for a million years, but it's just a thought.

On the door crack problem, I noticed this yesterday. When I roll the window all the way up the door bows out at the point of the crack. (Electric Windows). I used to do body work (20 years ago) For the time being I am not letting the window top out when I close it. I have not had time to take the door panel off yet, but there has to be a way to shim or adjust this problem so the window does not top out the point of bowing the door panel out. When or If I figure this out I will post my fix and pictures on my web site.
Love my F150 , but I still miss my ranger. Wish I could have kept it and had both trucks. My Ranger was fun to drive and tick the chevy drivers off when I punched that 4.0 w/ 373:1's and she would grab the pavment and fly.
