Cool Rear window leaking

I have a 97 and I was out driving the other day in the rain when my daughter in the back seat informed me it was raining in my truck. I got to work the next day and ran TSB's. Ford has addressed this problem. You get a whole new window! Ordered one up and should have it by the end of the week. I don't have the TSB number on me, actually I think it was a special service message, but if you need it just let me know.

I think the number would be good for the members to have as reference. Please post it.

My slider doesn't leak - but it hasn't rained in over 100 days here, so I could be in for a surprise...

I had my slider replaced last week. The glass isn't the same, they made the tinted glass differently back in 96/97 for the new style trucks. Because I was out of warranty they made me pay $100 of the over $600 bill even though I complained while still under warranty and it was temporarily fixed until it leaked again while out of warranty (twice I had it resealed before stomping my feet).

I could use this number also as I am appealing this to the litigation board in Dearborn since I have no other recourse. I know it sucks, but I've had my share of sopping wet back seats...

Check out http://www.glasslinks.com/techboard/index.html
It is from a BBS for Auto Glass Installers and has a good explination of how/why these sliders leak.

Sycoholic....HELP if you are still around. Need the ammunition for the Ford Dispute Settlement Board.

You mentioned here a Special Service Message number SSM 11089. I can't find that anywhere.

Can you elaborate if you remember where this was? Thanks for your help in advance.

I have left alot of msg's here about the rear slider leaking. I have a 97 Flair the rear slider has been replaced two time with another slider the last problem again was a crack in the plastic frame on the inside. this is caused by body flex. I had the last one replace with a flat non-slider. If U insist on having another slider go to a glass place that will stand behind their work. I was way out of warranty but Ford paid for mine. I went flat because I don't want to keep messing with it. This is an on going problem If I were U I would demand that Ford pay's. Brit

Discuse with UR Ford service manager the fact that this is a known defect with the rear window. Ask him to discuse it with their local Ford service rep. If it doesn't work the cheepest way is to go to a glass replacement place and ask how much it would cost to replace UR read window with a used standard one. They should have one or more used ones on hand that they will sell to U for about $30.00 Instilation should about $60. If U require a new slider then make sure they warrenty their work for the life of UR truck. Brit

All I can suggest is you try different dealers. Some are really hard nosed about it. Others are more liberal and will fix it for you under warranty. 2 months isn't a whole lot of time, so you might be able to get a sympathetic dealer to get Ford to cover it. They sometimes do this by rationalizing that the problem started before the warranty ran out. Again, it just depends on how sympathetic your dealer is.

One more question:

I had my Ford dealer fix the window leak in my '97 4x4 during October of 1999. I recently noticed that the rear window is leaking again. Will my Ford dealer warranty the repair work that was performed less than a year ago?

Thanks for any input.

Question

I was just about to post a question on this subject but snce this forum is here, i might as well use it. I just noticed that my rear window is leaking pretty badly as of late. If you are looking at the back of the truck, it is leaking to the right of the slider. It was leaking so badly that it ran down inside the safety belt housing and formed a puddle beneath the seat. i talked to the local ford dealership and found out that my truck is two months out of warranty for this type of thing. I just got back to college so i don't have any spare money around for this type of thing. My main question is how did you all go about getting ford to pay for this problem? Thanks for the responses in advance.
