Question Holes in Fiberglass

Is there anyway to fill holes in a fiberglass tonneau cover from a spoiler?

Cool

yep, they make a fiberglass body filler resin. Used to repair flareside beds and corvettes too. It's not real easy to work with from what I understand, but much tougher and better than bondo.

You'll need the resin and the mesh. If you've ever 'blocked' drywall it's easy (that's not what it's called in construction--I can't remember what it's called--blocking is what it's called in the auto industry). When you've filled the holes and let them set, guide-coat them, and block the patches by sanding with increasingly fine sandpaper up to 400 WD and then prime and paint. If you're a painter, and the tonneau is color is matched to your truck, go ahead and paint it. If you're not, the only color I'd trust myself with is flat black.

You should know you you'll need a dual-cartridge respirator (TC-19C or TC-23C rating). Sanded fiberglass is at least as hazardous as asbestos; indoors or out. And 4x as itchy. Try and do the body repair outdoors, and cover as much flesh as weather permits; a single bath won't cure the itch.

Lightbulb

I'd recomment MarineTex, you can find it at a marine/boat store. Safer than fiberglass resin, works like bondo until it's dry, then WATCH OUT ! This stuff hardens like a diamond, it's sandable and drillable. Just spent two days under the keel of my boat working with the stuff. You can utilize mesh with it if the area that your filling is wide.

-kindest regards
