Post paint keyed

The other day, the neighbor boy and I were admiring the depth of shine on my maroon (I know Ford calls it something else) 98 F150 XLT extended cab. That is when we noticed 2, not real deep, but jagged key scratches on the left rear fender. Not getting into current lowlife attitudes in our society today, can anyone lend some advice on repairing these marks, short of major paint shop repair? Thanks, Billy 12 string

Thumbs down

Society morals at a all time low!! A clearcoat polish/scratch remover will help, but not deep ones, colored wax can help them not look so white, touch up paint (oh no), or a paint job. Sorry to hear this.

Wink

Turtle Wax makes what I've seen lately, but there are other brands. It's more general shades rather than exact colors.

Thanks Max for the advice. The scratches arn't real deep so maybe the clearcoat polish/scratch remover will work. I may even try the colored wax. My neighbor and I are wondering if it is the same pillar of society that broke his bug deflector from the front of his truck while parked in the driveway. Biblically, it saids he that doesn't work, doesn't eat. Evil saids if I don't have it you can't have it either. Thanks again!

billy 12 string. I would recommend you stay away from the colored waxes. They hardly ever "match" the existing paint and they change color as they age on your paint.

If they're shallow as you say then polish should do the trick.

Depending on the depth of the scratch it can possibly be buffed out. I had a similar situation and took it to a local body shop. The guy there was generous enough to buff it out using a fine compound for free. I did not think it was going to be posssible to do but he did a great job. Check out that option as well. This guy saved me probably over $500 from having to repaint.

Soon: Spray-in bedliner, Accra-Step molded step, maybe 3" spindle liftn eventually.

Question

Billy- I didn't mean to imply colored wax as a exact match nor a permenant solution. Sorry I didn't mention it. Thanks Indyfan.

Hi Max, no problem about the color stuff, your advice on the polish/scratch remover should work. I may also go the buffing compound way sent by 19 seventy Ford. Thanks fellows, being an F150 owner has more benefits than just driving a great truck.

Hey if there are repeat vandalisms in your hood get a cheap camera, wire it to your VCR and aim it at your truck that is what my brother did when someone keyed his Z-71. When you find out who did it either call the cops or break your foot on their backside.
