Question Windshield Molding

I have a 200 F-150 Reg. Cab XL Sport with 7500 miles on it. Last weekend while driving at 55 mph, the top molding around the windshield came off and was hitting the roof. The dealer first said the entire windshiled needed replacement becuase the glass and molding were a unit. But all they did to repair was use some silicone sealant to put the molding back. Has anyone else had this problem? Was the repair the dealer correct or will I have problems in the future??

I have a '97, and the same thing happened to me about a month ago. Took it to a windshield shop, and they just glued the moulding back in/on. Seems ok for now. Maybe the strip is a common problem?

Usually the molding is applied before the windshield is installed in the vehicle. Then a sealant is used to seal the w/s to the vehicle. If the moulding isn't damaged from all that flapping around, I don't see any reason why it can't be reglued on. Watch close for leaks!
