Question What is that?

While laying under my truck I noticed something I hadn't seen before. I had my spare out and just in front of the X-shaped bracket and above the differential, there's a canister shaped "thing". Does anyone know what this is? There's one electrical cable bundle leading into it and one visible tube leading down the inside of the frame towards the engine.

Just curious.

canister

I noticed the same thing and I got lot's of possibilities from the boys on the board, most seem to think it was venting for the gas tank

If I'm not mistaken, it's the canister to capture the gasoline fumes. It's full of activated carbon. Auto manufacturers are required to have this on vehicles now because of clean air standards.

I did some work for the company that made these for the Toyota Camary & Avalon. Nothing more than a plastic shell with carbon inside. Very simple design.
