Post Painted Bug Deflector

I've read posts about people getting the clear bug deflectors and having them painted to match the truck. Has anyone tried painting the deflector themselves or does everyone take them to a body shop? I know they come pre-painted, but I want to buy the cheaper clear one and paint it myself with some spray paint I picked up at an auto parts store. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks,
Mike

I was thinking of doing the same thing. Get some Duplicolor spray then paint the backside of the bugshield. I haven't done it yet since I've only had my truck 2 weeks and I don't really like the look of the bug things much anyways. If I matched the paint though, it shouldn't stand out as much.

I never priced a clear shield by itself, but to get one ordered and painted to match was going to cost more than Pep-Boys wanted to order one already color-matched. I say color-matched because the Bugflector II is solid white (not painted) plastic. Final cost was $85 with tax & shipping.

I had mine painted with all of my other stuff for about 100.00 with materials. The clear is fine but to paint it they have to prime it so the guy I brought mine to told me to buy either one because he is going to paint the outside anyway so he can put on a good coat of primer. The guy painted both sides for me and it looks awesome.......

I was under the impression that the clear deflectors were painted on the underside. Can someone confirm this for me?

It kind of makes sense to me, that way they won't chip.

My bug deflector is clear painted on the back only. Looks great and yes it wont chip. My 94 was painted on both sides and the { love bugs } tore it up. Had a shop paint the clear one. They primed it first with some clear stuff then painted it... cost less if you have multiple items painted. I had the side louvers, window rain sheilds, bug deflector all done together for 85.00 plus tax.
