a few questions..
hey everyone, this is my first time posting here and i want to get my 97 F150 XL repainted. nothing really wrong w/ the factory paint, just scratches all over the place. my mirrors are those manual black plastic mirrors that come on a lot of F150's and i was wondering where i could get some mirrors that are ready to be painted that look like them. also, the door handles and tailgate handle is of the same material, can that be painted? or do i have to buy new handles and mirrors? ooone more question. i don't know what this part is called i'll just have to describe it to ya, i want to say it is the grill, but then again i don't. it's the front piece of the truck that wraps around the headlights holds and holds the center of the grill in place, which i will soon want billet. but right now, the particular piece i'm talking about of the grill or whatever it is called is chrome and i want it to be the color of my truck when i get it painted. does anyone know what that part is and where i can get it from? it's plastic, but chrome plated.
SlickRick150,
You can paint the handles on the truck to be body color with paint like SEM with the flex added.
I don't know what a body shop would charge for this, but it could be alot. You can do it your self, either find a local place that can make up the body paint and add in flex, or try paintscratch.com.
Remember to get all three (primer, color, clear coat ) with flex added for these parts.
As for the mirrors, to keep the same size, I have not seen those either, there are aftermarkets, but they look more like a car mirror then a truck mirror. You can also paint them if you want, using the same method as the door handles.
Lots of light coats is the key to painting them.
As for the grille surround, I have not seen a billet grille surround, just the insert itself in billet, that gets attached over the stock grille.
If you want this to color match, try fordpartsonline.com , oemfordparts.com or fordpartsnetwork.com for a XLT grille for the year and body color of your truck. The surround and insert are all one piece.
I replaced the grille on my XLT with one from a L and it was less then 100.00 for a whole new grile which is the surround and the insert. Depending on your body color and year combo, you might be able to get a L grille, or a XLT grille in the honey comb pattern.
I guess you could try to paint it, but for less thean 100.00 it might be better off getting the stock one, when considering labor and material to paint the chrome one.

thank you much for your long reply. i haven't had a chance to check for post because i have been working like crazy, but your reply was most helpful. i have seen custom paint jobs w/ big mirrors painted but i did not know if i had to buy new mirrors for this, although i couldn't find any on the internet, just a bunch of car mirror type stuff.
