Repainting the thang at only 66k miles!
Due to 'laquer checking', I had to have my 1997 f150 sanded down to the bare metal and repainted at only 66k miles and almost 6 years! Ford said I was out of warranty by 1k miles and they wouldnt budge. Geico saved me by offering 'comprehensive' coverage for about half the repaint cost. They only took 30 minutes between initial appointment and handing me the check! Anyone else have this problem and how did Ford handle it?
Sincerely,
Paul

I'm going through the same problem now. I just dropped my truck off on Monday. I was lucky. I had 350 miles left on the warranty. The dealer will have to strip down the truck to bare metal. I had to fight to get a rental. They finally gave me one but for only week. I should have the truck back in four weeks. My truck is an 01 so, I've only had it for a year and half. I'm very disappointed. The dealer told me if I'd gone over the 36k I'd be out of luck.
Hey There,
I got the F-150 back, and the paint looks good and the quality shows! I understand that the 97-98 p/ups had this problem with the paint, so Ford was extending the warranty out to 65k miles. Looks like they came through for you though...its a very expensive and time consuming job to grind down and repaint! It took my shop two weeks to finish it....they estimated one week, but I did have a rental the whole time.
