Bubbled paint and rust on inside of door

Hi all,

Noticed some bubbled paint on the bottom of the drivers side door at the bottom (inside) and took it to the dealer. He says that the seal is leaking and that it was in fact starting to rust. It needs to be sandblasted and then repainted. He then wants to look at the tailgate and it is also starting to bubble and rust at the botton seal. Apparently he's seen a lot of these trucks bubble/rust at the door seals and tailgates. He recommends that I wait for better weather and less salt and get it in to him before the warranty expires. Any one else come across this??? A two year old truck shouldnt show signs of rust this early in my opinion and this has me disappointed with Ford.

Thanks,
John

Sure have. I had seen this on alot of trucks when i was looking for one & my 2000 f-150 the doors had started to rust along with the drip edge on the tailgate. It was a 2 yr lease so i got rid of it & leased a 2002. I had the dealer fix the drip edge all they did was paint over the rust bubbles. When the lady from the dealer called me & asked me how my service went i told her & she said they wouldn't do that & she would have the body shop manager call me. Never got a call.

-leaky rear window club
-differental with no grease from the factory and had to have a 2000 dollar rear end at 400 miles club

Guys I have seen this on all types of trucks. Depends were you live, what they use on the roads in the winter, and if you have any scratches (even through your clear coat) as to how fast it happens. You could all use a trick my grandfather taught me; he used to rebuild cars for a hobby. Late in the year at first snow fall take a can of paste wax and put a coat on the bottom of the door and the drip rail and wipe it off, repeat but leave it on this time till spring! I have done this with all my trucks and have had no problems ever and I had my last one 8yrs in Wisconsin weather.

Hope this helps.

Had the same problem, took mine in with 36,120 miles, the cut off is 36K on the warranty, but they fixed all four doors. Gave me a 2002 pontiac grand prix for a week--I am not complaining. I would deff. get it in tho if you havent yet reached 36k.

Green 98,
What do you mean FOU-1 club? Is there a problem with that computer?
