Sorry, But another crack question
I'm sure most of you guys are fead up with the crack issue. I've Had my 2000 F-150 for two weeks now. Are the 2000's prone to the crack, or has ford fixed the problems with the 00's? I looked at the tech section about the crack and saw the pic. I must be half retarded cause I can't tell anything in that picture where the crack would be. I see the crack, and the window, but can't tell exactly where it would be. If you guys have better pics of it, would you post it for me..
Thanks

On the driver's door take a ruler and start at the middle of your keyhole, go due North 12.5 inches, turn due West go 2.5 inches.

Fake,
From reading the many previous threads, I'd make a guess that Ford "may" have corrected the problem.
However, I believe that you will only know after running your windows up and down about 12000 times. If I understand the previous posts, the window action causes the door to "flex". Enough flexing and eventually you get a metal fatigue crack.
Have someone run your windows up and down while you stand outside and watch for flexing of the upper door. If it flexes, it'll crack. If it doesn't, it shouldn't.
Post back the results of the experiment so all the 2000 owners will know!

Fake,
I read in another site news that a 00 was sighted with cracks in both doors, take it for what it's worth. I havent't read anything about 00 being exempt [read no change]. Also, go to your local Ford dealer and check out his 97 & 98 on the used car lot. You'll be able to see plenty of door cracks! One way around it, just trade every 2 years.

I stopped in to an out of town FORD dealer to pick up a small plastic cover (over the starter relay..which is NOT being installed on the 2000s for some reason...all 97-99 F-150 have them)...I went out of town because my local FORD dealer is so pathetic in every way..FREEWAY FORD OF COLUMBUS GEORGIA.
I happened to ask the head service guy how many F-150s were coming in with the door cracks. He looked at me like I was crazy...so I pointed to the approximate area on a nearby F-150. He said that he was unaware of this problem and had not seen a single F-150 with this problem. I told him that it WAS a problem....that I had already witnessed it on several F-150s. I told him that FORD was even replacing door skins..which he also was not aware of.
I don't know if he was full of it...or a slug who was not keeping up on the current TSBs??

Well, when I talked to the tech hotline they informed me nothing had been changed on the doors from 97-00. So, the 2000 doors will also crack. As soon as Ford figures out what will fix it (see "door crack plan b") they will incorporate it into all new trucks before they leave the assembly plants.

Dustoff, When I was stationed at Benning I bought a Ranger at Freeway. That was 12 years ago and from your opinion things havent changed. BTW found Gateway Lincoln Mercury great for service.
has anybody experianced cracks in manual windows or both manual and power? What if you have manual windows and roll them down slow, will this help from making the metal flex?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but nothing will help prevent the "door crack" problem short of never using your window. If you own any 1997 - 99 F-150 or F-250 Light Duty truck, you doors will crack...PERIOD.
I am so pissed at this issue and that Ford refuses to say anything about it or aknowledge it that I talk to every person with any of these years to show/warn them. I have to admit that I have yet to see a 1999 with the crack, but that yet remains to be seen. I have, however, seen it on EVERY SINGLE 97 and 98 that I have ever seen; no exceptions. Keeping that in mind, the 99's have the EXACT same door and profile. However, the 2000's have a bit of a different profile from the others in that the door area where the cracks occur has been slightly changed (obviously in an attempt to prevent the cracks).
Don't kid yourselves and don't let your local dealer tell you any crap that they have never seen it before...they can't be that mis-informed. Keep looking for the crack and report it the second you get it.
If we all report the problem (whether or not we think it's a big deal) then it helps us all in the end and Ford will take reponsibility even for the guys who are out of warranty.
Take Care,
...Deis
PS. By the way, I would like to introduce you all to my new baby...this should sound fairly familiar to Dustoff!
