Removing Stock 97 F150 Radio

My stock radio died and I want install an aftermarket DIN style. Do I have to remove any trim pieces to remove the stereo? Or do I just insert the Radio Removal Hooks into the Radio and yank? How do I install the Stereo adaptor piece - that lets you install a DIN stereo? The truck is a 97 F150.

Thanks for your help!

George

George,
If you've got the Removal Kit tools, you've got the hardest part licked. You do have to remove the panel surrounding the stereo, the middle A/C vents, and the A/C controls. Just turn the vents all the way in or out so that you can get ahold of the panel, and pull gently. It won't come all the way out because of the Passenger Airbag wiring/switch, but there's enough slack to lay the panel on the dash. Then use the tools to remove the unit. I'm assuming you have a wiring adaptor and a dashkit for the new unit. Just mount the DIN unit in the dash adaptor and snap the adaptor into the open area. You will have a lot of wiring to cram into a small space behind the unit, but there's ways of making them fit. Then snap the dashpanel right back on like you removed it. It'll look like it came in there. If you happened to get your DIN unit from Crutchfield, then they will always send you the dashkit and the wiring adaptor for your vehicle. If you didn't, they will still sell you all those parts for a very reasonable price. Good luck!
