'00-'02 HU fit in '97?
Hey guys,
I'm wondering if the '99-'02 factory head unit with CD player will fit in place of my AM/FM/Cassette HU. I have a '97 truck and would like to upgrade the sound system while retaining basic stock features...
How do I find this stuff out?

I'd give your dealership a call and tell them that you're interested in BUYING the factory system from them and that you wanted to know if they were the same size. When you get your answer, just 'postpone' the order.
I hate to use them this way but, they're always more eager to help if they know they're going to sell a $400+ radio.
My personal opinon is 'yes', I think it will fit but, just to be sure, check on it.
Also, you might check crutchfield.com and see if you can find out some information about the size. That's typically a good reference. I mean, if the 1997 and the 00/01 accepts the same size HU, then you have your answer.
Again, correct me if I'm wrong but, I believe the 97 cd changer wire was different from the 98+. Not sure if you're looking at a changer but, I thought I'd toss that out just for kicks and giggles.

1. If you're just looking at a single CD disk player, it should physically fit. The newer AM/FM/CD/cassette unit will fit, but the interior of the dash needs to be trimmed and the slide mount reworked/modified.
2. The wiring harness is going to be different. Ford changed them mid-year '98. You can order an adapter harness from:

3. The display on a 99+ radio is going to be green, and will not match your current blue-green dash lighting on your '97.
I purchased my AM/FM/CD player from someone on ebay, it came out of a '98 so everthing fit and matched. I had to get an adapter harness, the radio was early '98, my truck was built late '98.
