Replacing Premium Sound System

I have a 99 F150 Lariat with a single CD deck. I was planning on swapping it out with a Pioneer DEH-P6400. I bought the Metra wiring and dash kit. The problem is when I pulled the stock deck out, it has 2 wiring harness's plugged into it. I assume this means it's the Premium Sound System. Anybody dealt with this? I'm really just looking to increase the sound quality from the CD player. The radio doesn't sound to bad. Should I get the "Integration wiring harness" or bypass the amp? Should I just add a CD changer to the factory deck and return the Pioneer? Any opinions or advice? Thanks....

Check out www.installdr.com for wiring questions.

Take the 6400 back and get a 7400. The 7400 not only has MP3 but has built in crossovers (HPF & LPF). It is definitely worth the extra $20. Where did you buy it from?

Thumbs up

I got it from my local BrandsMart for $215 + tax. I jumped on it because that's less than I had found on the net. MP3 doesn't do much for me right now and I'm not planning on installing any amps anytime soon. If I do install an amp later, I'll just get a multi-channel amp with the crossover's built in.

I got a reply from Metra concerning the wiring harness. They said to disregard the second wire plug when installing the Pioneer. Apparently, the second plug isn't used with aftermarket H/U's. They say the part I bought is the correct harness (Metra part #70-1771). I'll put it to the test tonight. I'm hoping they are right.

Just following up, the Metra harness did work. I didn't do anything with the second plug and everything is working like a champ. So far, I'm really happy with the increase in sound quality from the Pioneer 6400 over the stock H/U.
