CD changer question
hey all,
Ok, I have decided to look into getting a CD changer to and hook it up to my AM/FM/single CD stereo. Question is would a CD changer work on the stock AM/FM/single CD stereo?

There is never a simple answer....
Does your existing CD (in-dash? stock Ford?) have changer controls on it? Perhaps some do. You also might pull it out and see if it has changer inputs on the back of the unit, as does the in-dash, 6 CD changer from Ford. If it's a Ford head unit, the chances of finding a compatible aftermarket changer is pretty slim. If not, just go buy any aftermarket changer unit that modulates into your existing head unit's FM section. I have had a JVC 12-disk changer for years that works this way and find it works just fine. Most aftermarket makers have models that are "dedicated" to work with one of their head units, and also one that modulates into a channel in the FM section of ANY head unit.
Or buy a Ford 6 CD indash changer for eBay.

Don't need no steenking tools...
...for a factory radio! First pull off the plastic surround from around the head unit/vents/climate controls. It just pulls off; turning the vents inward allows you to get a better grip.
Next...
Note the two, vertically-oriented pairs of holes on each side of the head unit. Get a coat hanger and a side cutter, and cut enough coat hanger wire to bend into a 6" long "U"-shaped thingie. Make a pair of them. Then put the two wire ends into the right and left side pairs of holes. Push the U-wires outward (like spreading your thighs). This releases the catches holding the head unit in the dash. You may have to tug a bit hard, but you'll get it.
