CD players

Hi folks,

I installed my alpine cda 7878 a couple weeks ago and couldn't get the cd to work. The CD would start to go in hang up a little then proceed to load and get spit back out. I went through the manual and concluded that something was amiss and sent it back for replacment with a working unit...

Someone told me today the head unit/CD heads may have a hold down screw that needs to be removed... I double checked the manual and nothing is mentioned about this... Anyone know if this is the case? Would the head unit/cd it be damaged it wasn't removed?

The head unit It was shipped back 2 weeks ago and the replacement is on back-order for another couple weeks and I am going crazy waiting (NO tunes).

If there is a screw that needs to be removed and if the unit would be ok I will ask them to return it ASAP remove the screw and once again have tunes...

Oh what screw needs removing if It has one to be removed.

Jim

a screw....nope not that I can think of. I have the little brother to your player in my truck and I love it. If there was a screw or somrthing there would have been warnings all over the unit.

On my Kenwood HU, there is a screw that came in a bag that you can either use or discard. It kinda like a security holdown screw that holds the front of the HU (where the detachable faceplate connects to.) for better security. It also says in the manual that this screw can only be placed in a certain hole. As it may cause internal damage if it's screwed into anywhere than the appropriate screwhole. This might be the problem with your Alpine HU. This is only a guess, but it's worth checking out. Hope you find the problem.
