Cd-r
i think part of it has to do with the type of disk it is burned on. whether it is a cd-r or a cd-rw, and even what brand it is. some of the lower quality brands tend to play on fewer players.
It can work fine.
In my stock 6-disk changer, I only have burned CD-R's and they work just fine. Again, your mileage may vary with brands of CD-R media.
I haven't tried a CD-RW, but I might just do that tonight just for the heck of it.

Mine worked fine in my 2000 , I was using the cheapo comp USA bundle CDR's also . My 2000 SD indash and our Excursion indash will play CDRW but the changer in the excursion will only play CDR
all our players play them, In the expy, tahoe, sport track, and my alpine. It also playes in all the home electronics to. They do seem to read hoter, when you take them out, they are pretty warm. That is all I have been playing latley, so much easier. A kid I know, has 40 gigs of songs on his computer, So I make a cd about everyweek for the drive home!!!!
The main thing that affects whether or not a CD-R will play right or not should be what length it is 74 min. or 80 min. A 74 min should play correctly in any CD player if it was burned correctly however, a 80 min has a steeper pitch angle on the data grooves. For that reason many players will not always play them correctly, especially older ones. My Ford cd changer works fine on all CD's and CD-R's, except for it having trouble with the last couple of minutes or so on full 80 min CD's.
