CD6 features
Can anyone tell me if the CD6 indash changers all have the same features no matter what vehicle they come out of?
Before I start chasing one down I would like to know exactly what I'm looking for and what to expect. Thanks guys...

I believe they all have the same basic features, except for the audiophile models and models that support rear controls.
From what I could gather from reading the historical posts in this forum, the audiophile models have another set of pinouts to support a factory subwoofer (differential-signalling subs, not line-level subs), and some have an extra set of pinouts to support the rear stereo controls.
For a F-150, I would search for Ford part # 1C3F-18C815-AB. This is what I installed in my 2000 Lightning.

Thanks for the help Spoondog. I tried using the search function but was told it had been temporarily disabled. Did you run into any problems with your install or was it pretty straight forward?
Electrical connections were plug-'n'-play, but I did have to cut out some plastic behind the stock 'hole' for the stereo. See picture for a more detailed view.
If you take out your stock stereo and then compare with the picture, it will make more sense. I had to cut plastic only along the red line in order to make room for the CD-6. Pretty painless, except for making a mess of the plastic cuttings.

You can use the other units interchangeably in the F150, but the extra controls will not be functional. I tried this once with the in dash 6cd out of my girlfriend's Sport Trac and it was plug and play, no problems working at all. Even worked seamlessly with the changer. Just no rear seat controls, that's all. So you can buy whichever is cheapest and it will still work. By the way, I see these on ebay all the time, and people don't know they are all interchangeable, so they don't bid on them. You can get them pretty cheap. I got the one for my GF's Sport Trac for $225, and it was a new pull.
