Alarm remote range getting bad!
What causes a remote signal to degrade so badly after two years or so?? Is it the recieving end that gets worn out? I have a Viper, but I've noticed Alpines' and others do the same thing. Can it be fixed without replacing the whole alarm system? It's getting pretty ridiculous lately, I have to nearly put the remote up against the hood to get it to arm and disarm sometimes. New battery in the remote, so that's not an issue. What gives?,,,,98
When it was first installed, it would reach a block or two

It's been slowly degrading over time. I should have said that I've replaced the battery twice, once when I thought it had gone dead before, and recently as well. There was no real change either time. 50 feet is about the best range I can get out of it now. Before, I could arm and disarm it from so far away I could barely hear the chirps. I guess I could try buying new remotes and then changing the alarm? ,,,,98
Hey 98, some alarms have a wire that is effectively the antenna for the system. The Alpine alarm I had had a wire that was connected to the "brain" of the alarm and just tie wrapped under the dash. Maybe yours came loose and isn't extended so it's not getting a good signal? You may want to check if the "brain" has shifted under the dash, that would also probably affect reception. It probably wouldn't hurt to try and email Viper, might get lucky and find that they have good customer support. Good luck!
