3.5mm socket for mp3 player

Well I've searched high and low but don't kill me if this one is already out there somewhere 9which frankly I can't believe it is not).

I have a 2000 Lariat (5.4) with a cd changer in the console. CD player is essentially useless (in my mind) given mp3 player popularity. I have seen posts in other forums regarding hacking into the wiring from the CD changer to the head unit and installing a 3.5mm socket so that a 3.5mm cable can be attached from any mp3 player (just like the modern days).

I do know using an un-switched socket requires the use of a CD with no noise recording on it and therefore a switched socket is the way to go. What I need is some details on how to wire the socket into the cabling.

Again, if this is out there somewhere, please just point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

Tim

No replies so I decided to venture into the darkness on my own. I have made it back alive to tell the full story!
