Alarm Advice

Not really a stereo question but stereo cats know alot about alarms. Looking to buy a new HU but first want to invest in an alarm system. The Viper 5901 seems popular and I found one online for alittle over 200 bucks. Is it better to have it installed or do it yourself?
Thanks for any input

Installing it yourself is a bitch. I'm in the middle of installing it myself. DON'T. I have a mechanic helping me and we put in 6 hours on Saturday only to have it not work. We had to spend another hour bypassing it just so I could drive it this week. We're making a second attempt this weekend.

The unit does not come with installation instructions, nor does the bypass unit. You'll have to google to find a copy. Check out the12volt.com for diagrams, etc.

Shop around and you can beat that price. I picked up mine from 6ave.com for $193 on sale a few weeks ago.

Keep in mind you'll have to buy a bypass module for another $40-60.

Thanks for the input davewvu86. I was going to attempt it but I think I will be paying someone to do it for me now.

A few people have highly recommended KC Autosound to purchase from. As long as it's a Ford, you can get your alarm pre-wired to make installation easier. I think he removes all the wires you dont need and provides detailed instructions for alitttle extra.

My wife picked up the Viper 5901 for me off Amazon as a present. KC Autosound runs about $100 more than most other places but right now I'd gladly pay $100 for the prewiring and customized step by step directions he provides.

If you're considering doing it yourself, pay the extra money and get it from KC Autosound.
