do DEI(viper) remote starts/alarms come with basic instructions??

I want to buy and install the Viper 5301 remote start myself. I am more than capable of doing it, I don't want a shop to do it because I don't like people taking my truck apart.

Looking on the DEI website, it says these products are for "professional install " only, and they won't give online wiring or instructions unless your a dealer that can log in to their database.

I have a wiring schemcatic of my truck. If I buy the viper 5301 online does that box contain some kind of intruction sheets that tell me what wires do what????

I can't install it unless I have that info. Has nyone installed a viper product themselves???

I had one installed in my truck by best buy, they did a great job and they didnt have to take much apart and they only charge i think 200$ bucks, and it takes all day, I recomend it, my sisters fiance was going to do mine cause he does it for a living, he said just have a shop do it cause then you are coverd incase something happens to the truck like a fire or something, i would just bring it somewhere it so much easier, and its a lot of work and most shops have warrenties, expesially if you buy it from them

Looks like a good deal. Please get back with us if you get this and install it. I've been wanting to add a remote start but don't want to spend a fortune and like you, I don't like others taking apart my truck.

I hear you, I'm thinking about it. I mean, when it's all said and done it will cost me about $100 more to get it installed by best buy vs. if I did the whole thing myself.

Therefore, it's not a money issue. It doesn't pay me for my time for a whole day of work for $100. To me it's more of a quality/what I want issue.

I'll go to best buy and talk to the tech, I just don't want 17 year old kids ripping my truck apart and breaking plastic clips. Also, they have to remove the rear seat to get to the BCM for thiese trucks, and it's a PITA to get off (I've done it). You can easily mess up the leather and scratch things up if you don't take the time to be careful.

So, It's $180(for alarm) plus another $70 for the pass key defeat module=$250 to do it myself.

Best buy wants $270 installed and another $70 for the pass key defeat module=$340.

hmmmm.........

wow my alarm was 700$ i guess you found a cheeper one, my sister works at the best buy by me and her friend did my instalation he is about 25 years old and does fantastic work ive had him to speakers subs amps alarms in all my vehicles, you just have to find the right person who knows what they are doing and they make you sign a paper that says if we brake any clips its not our responsibility, but i mean the if they do brake the clips there like 5 bucks

you probably had the whole alarm system. The viper 5301 is a remote start system only, no alarm. I said alarm but I really mean "remote start". Thats why yours is much more money

A buddy and I installed my 5901 in a couple of hours. A remote start is a little bit easier because it does not have as many hookups as an alarm.

The instructions tell you what wires do what.

Any install done by a non-professonal installer (in this case, you) voids the lifetime warranty carried by viper products. Not to mention if you burn your truck to the ground, your out 20,000k. Spend the extra and let us do it. Over 75% of us are MECP certified and we carry a lifetime nation wide warranty on workmanship

If we brake any clips its not our responsibility? First of all, If i did break a clip, you probably would never even know. But if i did, and it was noticeable and needed to be fixed, we are responsible for that, and we do fix it.

People dont understand that **** happens or that some stuff is known to happen in certain vehicles. The costumer usually has experience.knowledge of their own personal vehicle, whereas we have an intimate knowledge of many different ones. We know what is known to break, and what problems are known ones. Clusters on cavaliers, ingition cylinders on impalas are just a couple examples. or for instance a while back, a dude with a mid 90's miata convertible came in wanting a deck install. We told him he needed to sign a waiver saying that if the top of his dash crumbled, we weren't responsible for it. Those are notorious for breaking after sitting in the sun for 10+ years. He called us *******s and said he'd do it himself. 45min later he was back with a broken dash and payed us the $50 to finish installing the radio.
