Question how to remove radio...

Hello all. I just purchased my first Ford F150 (a 1996). Anyway, I'd like to install a Sony CDX 5090 cd player in the truck and I need to know how to take out the radio. Can the dash that surrounds the radio be removed? Or is there someway to pull out the radio without doing that? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Cool

No it just comes right out. You need either the 'Ford keys' to put in the four holes located in the corners of the faceplate, or rig something up to fit in there. I've always used just some nails or wire to push in the holes. There's tabs in there that will release and it just slides right out. Kinda have to work it a little and be patient. Good Luck!
P.S. Save yourself the headache and make sure to use an adaptor for the wires (about $10 at Walmart).

I am pretty sure you can buy those Ford factory removal keys at Wal-Mart as well. I went to a local stereo shop here, bought a mounting kit from them, and they gave me a set of them for free. The guy was like.. these are really cheap, and we have them laying all over the place anyway.

Cool

My "ford keys" were a couple of metal, coat hangers cut into "U" shapes - - it ain't rocket science - - it is very (TOO) easy to pull out a Visteon head unit in an F-150.

I used bottle rockets once Had to be careful not to break the stick off though, and no smoking.
