Question adding aux inputs to stock stereo

I have a 2005 F150 lariat with top of the line stereo for that year (6 cd in dash/mp3/sub etc) and no dvd player. there is an aux. button but I'm told it was for the dvd option. Can I somehow hook up an input to that stereo and use the aux. for something like sat. radio or mp3 player, or do I have to use the cig lighter type plugins or FM frequency type devices. If I sound like I don't know much about this stuff its because I don't, thats why I'm asking you guys. Thanks

I put that adapter into my truck and am very happy with it. The sound is crystal clear. I tried using the FM modulator and it only worked when I was way out in the sticks. Even a street light would interfere with the signal. Plus there is much more volume with the PIE installed.

Yes,I hid it in the area the radio lives in,in behind the ashtray. I wired the head unit loosely in the console. When I listen to it ,I just lay it in the cupholder. Out of sight, out of mind. Except for the small roof antenna, nobody knows it's there.

Does anyone with a 2005 have one of the P.I.E. units? I'm wanting to find out the model you are using since the P.I.E. website isn't that clear on which one to get for our truck.

Okay, I'm not trying to sound repetitive on some of these posts...but here goes.
I have an 05 f150 with factory head unit. No aux input on dash tray. I bought a factory head unit that was in a truck with an aux input. When I push the aux button it switches to line in. If I get a dash tray with the input in it will I be able to hook it up to this radio? I know I can get the pie part, but thought if I could get the other at a junk yard or something I could save some money and use it for something else on my truck.

Check the back of the headunit that is currently installed in your truck. It should have two harnesses connected to it. One would be a big one harness for dimmer compliance, power, ignition, speakers, ground, etc. Another harness which is essential to have would be smaller than the primary. This harness is for satellite radio and auxiliary input compliance, and you need it for your aux command to work.

My truck did not have that. The new radio that I bought came out of a truck that did. Can I add this somehow. Is there a way to buy this harness for the input. Thanks for your help.
Also, the dimming feature does not work or the speed volume. Is there anything I can do for that.

Auxiliary input help needed!

I have not found anything about the problem I am having and just thought you guys/gals could help!
Long story short, my battery died and now when I push the AUX button it only pops up with SAT1,SAT2, and SAT3 and I do not see the auxiliary "line in" port as a choice anymore. I have the '07 F-150.
Is there some type of password or steps I have to do in order for the deck to see the line in port as an option? it ONLY did this after it died. Thanks for any help!

so you're saying there should be an actual harness attached to the other port? can you purchase this harness somewhere? or is this what the PIE does?
Thanks.
I am also interested in the dash tray question without the use of a PIE, so FREE BUMP! :smiles:
