DIN-E & stacked installation
Greetings All...!!!
I'm looking to do A stacked installation of two radios in my 98' F150 regular cab. I understand that the height is only a DIN and a half. An additional concern is that the available depth at the top is limited. However, it seems that some work arounds have been documented here.
The 1st radio is a PRO-2067 communication scanner. http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...%5Fid=20%2D196 The Radio Shack owner's manual describes the size as a "DIN-E" that requires 2 inches high by 6 11/16 inches wide by 5 1/2 inches deep [50 x 170 x 140 mm] mounting area. BTW.. does anyone have a web reference that details the DIN specification? Could the "-E" designate depth?
The 2nd radio will be AN AM/FM tuner that will be determined by the remaining space. I would like both to fit flush without any dash hacking. Anyone have experience with the Aiwa CDC-MP3 which has an anit-theft fold down detach? http://www.aiwa.com/Catalog00/Products2.asp?id=94 The size specification is listed as 2 inches high by 7 inches wide by 6 1/8 inches deep.
Other questions...
1. Is the scanner too deep for the top position? If so, what is the maximum available depth? I would like to minimize changes to the support bracket for the dashboard.
2. What installation kit is best for this situation? Am I looking for a single DIN kit to sit on top of the existing OEM carriage?
Sorry for all the questions..!!

Well, I was once in this spot I was trying to install a DSP and A CDP in that spot. Actually it is a Din and 3/4 opening. I have since installed a double din head in my truck and it did call for some cutting. I have a 98 F150 also, so it would be the same type of labor. I had to remove some of the metal braces inside the pocket, as well as trim the top and bottom lips of the pocket. It is nothing noticable when the factory trim is put back in place. It is not to hard to do but remember when yo cut you cut for good. So with that in mind...good luck.
