Question audio system

Hello there, I am from the Netherlands, Europe and bought a 2001 F-150 Lariat last Saturday.
I am looking for some information about the audio system that is in the truck when new. I want to prepare a new set before it arrives (8weeks from now)/
Anyone have infoamtion about the wiring of speakers or the best choices for the system? Anyone know if the USA audio system is different from the European? Please let me know. Thnx, Ron

The first and simpliest thing to do is to purchase a wiring harness adapter that just plugs into your truck harness where your current radio now plugs in and then wiring up any aftermarket unit will be much easier. The color codes are listed on the adapter. If you are going to use outboard amps, you can run the wires to your dash and hook into the harness too. Using the existing wiring won't degrade your sound unless you are using large amps.
By the way, welcome to the F150 family and also to the States. Have fun.......

Then we have the sound system: A Collage of a Clarion 9375 head unit, 12 disc changer in console, Fosgate Power 500 on a 12" sub (seat raised 4")Soundstream 364 driving front and rear mix of Diamond Audio and JBL.

Cool

Ron,

I am not sure, but I would assume the wiring and speakers are the same in the US and Europe. The head unit is probably different internally due to differences in radio frequencies, but I would guess that the wire connections are the same.

A lot of people are going with component speakers in the doors for better sound quality. Mounting the tweeters up high either in the door panel, or on the A-pillars will give you the best sound.

Crutchfield (www.crutchfield.com) has a lot of good information. They alos carry all the adapters necessary for wiring, but I don't know if buying from them is an option for you.

Hope this helps,

Sven

Thank you for the information. I don't have all the specs from the audio yet. Do you also have FM on the tuners? Does anyone know standard output (a x b watt) from the standard audio? Also, are there good alternatives for this double DIN piece? I would like to install my own (KENWOOD) CD changer but it looks that the controls are not able to steer the KENWOOD.

Yes, all the tuners I've seen have FM. The stock head units only put out 4-5 watts typically and usually will not "tie" into an aftermarket changer. Your best bet is to go ahead and change out the stock unit for a matching head unit for your changer. Good Luck.

DonnyD, thanks very much! Your very helpful. I have not seen these double DIN units here in Holland yet, but I will look for them.
Will keep you posted on progress . BR Ron

You can also use the standard size units and get a mounting kit with a faceplate. They only cost $10US or so. Again, check Crutchfield's. I'm sure they'll ship overseas, and will give you installation instructions also.
