Question QUESTION - Removing stock system...

I want to remove my stock system out of my 2000 Lightning...6 disc changer and all. I've got a rough plan for a new setup but had some questions.....Does the factory system have an amp or something anywhere that must be removed before I go with an aftermarket head unit, speakers, amps, etc.?

Cool

I think the Lightning comes with the premium sound system. This does have an external amp, but I think they must loop the signal back into the radio and then out to the speakers.

When I put my new system in, per Crutchfield's instructions, there are 2 harnesses that plug into the back of the factory unit, plus the antennae jack. One is to the speakers and the other is to the amp. They say to disregard the amp harness if you are not going to use the it. It is the lower of the two in the bottom right looking at the back of the head unit.

I left it unplugged and everything works fine.

Hope this helps.

There is an amp behind your heat controls. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE REMOVED. If you look there should be several sets of wires. Ford either was too lazy or realized that most of us prefer aftermarket radios, left to sets of wires. One set goes directly to the amp and the other bypass. As in the notes below all you will need to do is disconnect the radio and cd and you ready to start building you customer audio system.

Just incase anyone cares, The way to find out if you have a factory amp is whether or not you have a "AUTOSET" button, yes=amp no=no amp.
