Question Need help installing new system.

Just purchased:

Blaupunkt Houston in-dash CD Player

The deck came with free Blaupunkt P652c 6.5" speakers. Will these fit in the rear doors without major modification?

Blaupunkt PCxt573 5x7/6x8 speakers

Anyone have any advice on installing all this stuff? I've reserched some past threads and learned how to remove the door panels for speaker installation. I've also heard that the factory head units in Ford vehicles require a special tool to "unlock" them for removal. Where can I get one of these? Any other advise is greatly appreciated.

------------------
Stock Stuff:
Y2K SCab 4X4, Chesnut Metallic, 5.4L, 3.55 Limited Slip, Skid Plates, Factory AM/FM/CD, 40/60 Split Bench, Sliding Rear Window, Towing Package and Keyless Entry.

Extras so far:
305/70X16 GY Wrangler ATS on American Eagle Series 146 chrome wheels, K&N air filter, Catch-All floor mats, tinted windows to match factory rear glass, Bull Ring retractable tie-downs, www.f150online.com sticker below center brake light. University of Georgia hitch cover "GO DAWGS!"

Future plans (the good stuff):
Airbox/FIPK mod, Flowmaster 40 Series muffler and stainless exaust tip, spray in liner (or Herculiner haven't decided), stainless nerf bars, hood deflector, and a Blaupunkt audio system to name a few.

You can get the tools to remove the radio at Wal-Mart. They're about $5.

ONE,

Those speakers should fit well with only slight modification. I would also reccomend speaker baffles(foam sleeves that the speakers get mounted in) to protect the speakers from moisture as well as increase sound quality and help deaden vibration.

The Ford special tool to remove your factory radio is no big deal. You can a wire coat hanger to accomplish the same thing.

I would reccomend getting a dash mounting kit and wire harness kit from Crutchfield. You need these things to mount and connect your new stereo properly. Crutchfield will usually throw in the Ford special tool for free when you get the kits from them.

6.5 speakers will fit in the 6x8 holes. You fust got make a mounting plate to put the speakers on.

Thumbs up

Boss,
Actually, I placed my order with Crutchfield just before posting this thread. I just checked the status of my order and found out everything is included. The mounting kit, harnesses for the deck AND speakers, the dash tool to remove the factory deck and installation instructions. I'm glad I went with them. Not only did I get a great deal on the equipment but I'm going to save money on the install thanks to the extras! Does Crutchfield sell the baffles as well? How much $ are we talking for them?

captainoblivious,
I saw the thread about making your own mounting plates for component speakers. Is this similar to the way I need to mount the 6-1/2's? Where can I get the materials needed?

All,
Where should I install the speakers? I figured since the 6x8's are 3-way they should go up front for the best sound. At least that's what I've learned in the little research I've done. The highs should be firing as close to the listener as possible right? The 6.5's are only two way so should be in the rear doors? Is this correct?

onemilmhz - I used plexiglass that I got from home depot. Just cut out a peice a little larger then the 6x8 opening. The tricky part is mounting 6.5's. Right now I have 5.25 speakers and they fit with no problems in the 6x8 slot. Before I had 6.5 and they were a little tricky to put on the plexiglass plate because if you didn't mount them in the right spot the screws that hold the speakers in interfere with the whole plate. But 6.5's do fit, just gotta do a little figiting to get everything to fit neatly.

ONE,

I'm sure Cruthfield has them, they are usually about $15 a pair. Just make sure you order the size you need: 5 1/4, 6 1/2, 6x9, etc.

Question

Don C,
Are you talking about the Scosche Universal or the F-150 specific? I went to the Scosche website and it said the F-150 specific was for installers only and the online store didn't have either of them listed. How much did you pay for yours?
