Question stock stereo power

What is the power rating for the stock "Premium CD" stereo in a 2000 F250 Superduty?
What power requirements or specs should I be looking for in aftermarket speakers for this truck with the stock head unit? Lastly, should I go with regular speakers, or component speakers?

I don't know about the power of the stock unit, but I would recommend component speakers. I got the Infinity Reference, which are rated at a wide range of 2 - 90 watts. I ran them of my stock head unit for a while and they sounded pretty good. Then I upgraded the HU (17 watts rms clarion) and they sounded better. Then added an amp and they sounded better still. In my experience, the biggest gain with the components is in the high ranges. If you go with 6.5" rounds in the front, you get a much wider selection of speakers (but install is slightly more trouble).

I know the indash CD players are Visteon, but I haven't been able to find any web site for them. Crutchfield has a Visteon in-dash 6 CD changer that is rated at 4x20 peak, and that's likely the same for the other CD players:

The speakers I took out of my Lightning had 4 ohm, 25w on the back, so that would coincide with the CD players power output.
In back to back testing of the stock speakers with Pioneer TS-A6895s (6x8 coax), The Pioneers only showed an improvement in sound quality at higher volumes, and the Pioneers actually had less bass range. For efficiency and quality, you can't beat a component speaker system, but for the best results you will also need a small 4 channel amp.
