Question Tweeter location, any other ideas??

I have done a lot of searches on the topic of tweeter location on this board, but most of what I have found has been information from '99. I know that is not old info, but I was curious to know if anyone had any other ideas of where to place some.

I am about to replace my old componet set and want to get another componet set (I have been very happy with it). I first had the tweeters on the plastic running from the dash to the headboard, but I did not like the imaging. I then placed them in the corners of the dash right up close to the windshield, reflecting off the glass. That was better, but I am not sure it is the sound I want. I have seen posts about them being placed above the door speakers above the power window controls. I like that look a lot, but wanted to know if anyone that has done this is still happy with the imaging?? I thought mine sounded good on the window colums at first, but after a while I realized that they were not producing the sound I wanted. So has anyones opinions changed since doing it this way?

I am about to get the MTX Thunderform box for the regular cab F150. I currently have an 8in Kicker Solo Baric behind the seat, and I am really impressed with the bass of this speaker, but I am going to sell it to help fund the Thunderform purchase. I already have two MTX 10inch speakers that will work in the box. I just have not decided on the componet set yet. I currently have 5.25 mids, but I am thinking of going with 6.50's. BTW, I have a seperate amp running the front speakers.

Well, anyway, I am rambling now, but I really want to know about the tweeter placement. Thanks for any information

Joe

I'm still very happy with mine (6mos later).
In fact I had them that way on my Nissan for 5years and that is why I did mine the way I did in my F150.
It is a very practical location and looks good while sounding great.
Ask Doc_f150 how they sound, He's heard them.
Putting them high in the doors seems to open up the sound a lot.
Also the sound isn't blocked while carring a passenger in the front seat.
Follow link for pics.

I have a 2000 f-150 and I just installed polk 6.5" dx comp speakers,I will e-mail you a pic of tweeter location, only because I dont know how to post pic here.I called polk and talked with a tech, what he told me to do was, hook up all speakers and tweeters but dont mount tweeters, have a friend sit in the passengerside of cab and crank your tunes...move the tweeter around the cab to see where it sounds best...remember crank it up, to make sure wherever you put your tweeters they dont blow your ear drums out and sound like s--t.this is what I did and my tweeters are mounted a little more forward and lower than the two post's before me..remember its your ear your trying to please.I think if you do this you will not second guss yourself on location because you at least checked it out...find the sweetspot and then cut..hope this helps...mark

o-ya my e-mail is linedog@home.com

54regcab:

When you removed the door panel, did you have to remove the plastic panel, below the tweeters, that the window and door controls are located on. Wasn't sure if you could slide the door upward then disconnect the window/door switches or if you had to remove the pastic panel/plate first, disconnect then slide the door upward. Also, is the sail panel clipped to the door (its one piece). The older f-150's sail panel are separate and are clipped to the door.

Well, I just figured out why those pictures looked different to me, THEY ARE, I have a '98 and the door panels must be different. My door handle is underneath the power window controls. I have a handle to pull on to shut the door where the door handles are in the pictures above. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

The control panel just pops up by pulling up in the front.
Sail panel is part of the door panel in '99s and up.

Linedog, How do you like the staging of the sound?
Where did you mount the drivers side tweeter?
Here's the drivers side on mine:

A close up:

BTW does anybody have a pic of a '98 or '97 door panel?

before I mounted them I moved the tweeters all around the cab, this is the position that sounded best to me,the staging is awsome.

Question

LineDog,

Looks very clean, nice job. I do like the carbon fiber look. Is there more pieces in the kit that would cover the switch surrounds and maybe the vents themselves?
How much jack did it cost yah? The head unit and equalizer are sharp. Did you have to trim the factory brace\mount to fit it in there? I currently have the factory head with amped aftermarket speakers. I want to upgrade the head as soon as I find the right deal. Yours looks great.
