Im planning on hooking up a cobra 29 ltd "Chrome" edition cb in my truck and I'm wondering what the best wiring route to go would be. Cb's require a strong connection enable to work correctly. Should I go from the cb thru the firewall straight to the battery? Or can I go to the ignition or Fuse box? the + and - connections are pre equiped with a fuse so I wont have to wire one in. Any suggestions ? Thanx guys.
It should be fine to tap onto a wire inside the cab, preferably at the ignition harness where there is heavier gauge wire, it wouldn't be the best but you could tap onto your radio's constant also, depending on the CB. It would be best to go to the battery but if you dont want to then you will be fine with tapping onto a wire.
If you know off the top of your head what gauge the power wire on the CB is, post it and i will be able to tell you a little more of where exactly you could go.

Go directly to the battery fused on both ends. I have the cobra 29 series also and wiring it to the factory power introduces a considerable amount of noise and you'll have to use all the built in filters to make it usable. You'll want to use about 12 gauge wire for the CB fused at the battery. Why? If the wire gets shorted before your factory installed fuse it's got a good chance of setting your truck on fire. Not fun.
Here's mine installed in the dash. I do have it powered off the cigarette lighter since it was a close heavy power wire and I was getting sick of messing with it. I dealt with it this year but I always kick myself when I needed to use it's weather bands. My stereo causes the most interference so to use it I have to power off my system. So just save yourself my headache and go to the battery.

Ground it to the body, as short a cable as possible thick cable and sand around where you put the ground. Running it out to the battery on the ground side will introduce noise and cause inteference with the trucks radio.
