Diskman woes
I bought a personnal CD player with the car kit yesterday and when I popped it in, the truck's player keeps autoreversing. The car kit adapter is designed to only play one way, so when the radio autoreverses, it reverses back again and it keeps on doing it. I tried the CD player/car kit on a Mercury Sable and a Honda Accord and it ran flawless, no autoreversing, so its not that the car kit adaptor was too tight. Maybe my radio is just too sensitive. I will be dropping the truck on Tuesday for routine maintenance, can I bring up this issue? Also, I drive long distance and too keep my concentration to a maximum, I need to listen to the radio, but when playing tapes for long periods the cassete becomes hot. Is this a problem or normal? Thanks.

If you can take the cd player back do!
You can buy an in dash for what a good diskman costs.
I ran diskmans with a car kit for several years. Well, up till last October. I had problem after problem with them.
When it was all said and done with I went through something like 8 diskman players including two of those expensive "Sony Car Diskman"!
Pickups just plain ride too rough for them I guess. Like I said I just bought my first in dash unit and I've never been happier.

Someone else had this same problem a while back and if I remeber correctly it had something to do with the autoreverse sensing circuit in the deck.
Buy a In-dash CD deck or a add-on changer.
You won't be dissapointed.
Plus you don't have to mess with all the wires and the discman sliding all over the place.

I am a little tight on cash, I wouldn't mind getting an integrated CD player but for now I can only afford a Diskman. It really is very annoying, autoreversing as if it is possessed. So far no other car radio I have tested on has this problem (95 Mercury Sable, 98 Honda Accord) so I guess it has to be the F-150's radio. Can the dealership fix this, or am I forced to buy little speakers so passengers can hear CD music. Besides, every square inch is needed inside the truck, atleast with the Diskman, it can be moved to another place very easily.

I have had that problem before, many times actually, all in different cars/trucks. Never tried it in my F-150, but I use to have an Explorer(94), and it did the same in there. The only thing I can say is try and get a new tape, sometimes that can make a difference, for at least a little while, that is what I found for myself. The first truck I had, a 84 Bronco II, I put a car discman in it with an aftermarket deck, and in order to keep it from reversing, I had to press down on the tape for a good minute or so to make sure it would stay down, that worked for me in that old thing. Other than that, just start putting a little money aside every week or so and get a cheap CD player, Sony makes some good cheap ones as does Pioneer (under $200 some can be had for..as little as $150 I have seen)

I had the same problem in my 95 explorer which I traded for my f150. I tried several different brands of cassette adapters (kenwood, pioneer, and others borrowed from store and tried in parking lot) and they all did the same thing. All adapters are not made the same, some use rubber belts to turn the posts other use gears. I even tried one of those battery operated FM Modulators you can plug into the headphone jack but wasn't happy with the sound quality. I finally bought another adapter from Radio Shack and it worked fine. So give a Radio Shack adapter a try, it might work for you.
