How do I get the factory reciever out?
I just finished putting in my 4" LCD in my visor and am in the process of installing the FM modulator hookup to my stereo. Just one question-how do i get the factory reciever out? Ive checked it out and pulled a little bit, but don't want to damage anything...Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
You need the removal tools made for Ford Visteon radios. I bought a pair from a local stereo store. I think they were around $10, but I can't be sure.
They are basically horseshoe shaped, wire tools that you insert into the holes on the outside edges of your radio, push out on the tools, and pull forward to remove the radio.
First, you must remove the plastic trim piece around your radio and vents. Turn the vents outward and grasp the trim piece and pull.
The whole operation takes about 15 seconds once you know what you're doing!

You don't need to waste your money on the ford removal tool. When I pulled my OEM stereo and replaced it I just used 4 nails. When the nails are inserted, it depresses a set of clips and the setreo pulls out. If you have the time and money go ahead but IMHO its not worth it.

Just got through installing a Kenwood receiver. Removing the Ford receiver takes about 2 minutes. Remove the plastic vent plate. Make sure you are well behind the plate so you don't scratch the outside paint. The four nails will work, but I would go to Walmart and get the U-shaped DIN removal tool (should be two of them). Insert the tools into the holes. You will here a click. Its now seated. Pushing outward at the same time, now pull out the receiver. Thats it! I would get a wiring harness to to the rest of your connects. Good luck!
I just went 2 blocks down the road to a local audio shop and the guy came out and did it for free... I think it's most definately the easiest way...
