Smile Thanks everyone!!!

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone, especially LuvTheC and ALA G8R, that helped me out by answering my questions and giving me advice before I installed my new audio system in my truck this past weekend. I didn't have much experience in this area, but everything went really well and I now have a great sounding setup in my truck. I know it wouldn't have gone nearly as smoothly without the help I got from you guys!!!

My setup now looks like this...

In the dash...
Sony Moblie ES CDXC7850 head unit

In the center console...
Sony Mobile ES XDP-U50D DSP/preamp
Sony MDX-65 minidisc changer

Under the rear seat...
Rockford Fosgate Punch 600a5 amp
Rockford Fosgate Punch XLC 8" sub on each side of the amp, in sealed enclosures I built myself.

In the doors...
Infinity Kappa 6.5" three ways in the front.
Infinity Kappa 6.5" two ways in the rear.

All of this is connected using StreetWires ZeroNoise 5.0 patch cables, StreetWires speaker wire, and StreetWires UltraFlow power cable...haven't noticed any unwanted noise at all.

All that's really left to do now is to tweak the gains, etc a little bit. Again, thanks a lot for all of your help guys...I really appreciate it!!!

Matt

Triton...

I ordered nearly all of my gear from online retailers.

Sony Mobile ES CDXC7850 head unit :
www.Autotoys.com - $305

Sony Mobile ES XDP-U50D DSP :
www.TMS-Electronics.com - $365

Sony MDXC65 minidisc changer :
www.Autotoys.com - $328

Rockford Fosgate Punch 600a5 amp :
www.TMS-Electronics.com - Don't remember
price right off hand...they had to
special orer it so I'll have to check
the receipt for you...I think it was
around $475.

Infinity Kappa 63.1i speakers :
www.TMS-Electronics.com - $135 pr.

Infinity Kappa 62.1i speakers :
www.TMS-Electronics.com - $120 pr.

Rockford Fosgate Punch XLC 8" 4Ohm subs :
www.audio-n-more.com - $62 each.

2" rear seat lift kit :
www.lmiwelding.com - $100.

Streetwires patch cables, speaker wires, distribution block, terminals, etc :
Crutchfield...probably about $400.

Hmmm, didn't realize I spent quite that much money!!! ;-)

If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably get some better subwoofers (not that these are bad or anything though)...I had not originally planned to get the rear seat lift kit, so I had to get something that would work in a small enclosure and had a shallow mounting depth. With the rear seat lift in place, I wouldn't have had to worry about the depth of the subs. I also might consider going with component speaker up front instead of the triaxials.

I spent quite a bit of time trying to find good deals on the Internet and these are some of the best prices I found on each individual item...I'm not saying that these are the best prices you'll be able to find, but they should be fairly close. Let me know if you want any additional info.

Yeah that stereo equiptment can get expensive quicker than you realize.
At first alli wanted was a CD player then the stereo monster grew.
Next will be some real subs for behind the seat.
Will it ever stop?

No thanks needed but appreciated!

This is what makes this board successful!! No petty pickering, personal attacks, etc. Just the facts from people who speak from personal experience........

I hear ya brother!!! When I first started planning my new audio system, I thought it would just be a pretty simple upgrade...I would just replace the head unit with an old Sony head unit I had laying around and I'd replace the speakers with some nice Infinity speakers.

Then I got to thinking how nice it would be to have a sub or two...so that meant I had to get an amp, so I ordered the speakers and the amp.

Then I got to thinking how nice it would be to be able to customize the sound a little bit, so I ordered the DSP unit.

Then I got to thinking how nice it would be to have a changer of some sort and since the DSP has inputs for changers, I figured I could mount them together in the center console, so I ordered the minidisc changer.

Then I got to thinking that I've got all of this nice new equipment, but an old head unit, so I ordered the new head unit.

It's probably going to take an awful lot of "thinking" to come up with what I could add to it next, since I think I have just about everything covered. And if I do come up with anything else (perhaps some video gear?), it'll probably be something I definitely really DON'T need! Oh well, I guess that hasn't stopped me before. :-)
