Electronic Crossovers worth the extra $$?
I am planning to add a sub and wanted to know if the electronic crossovers are worth the money.
I have 4 options that I can think of:
1: Use a passive crossover on my existing 35x2 Sherwood amp. ($25.00)
2: Replace my existing amp with an Alpine 4x25rms w/built in high/low pass filters. ($135.00)
3: Same as #2 but with Punch 4x50rms ($200.00)Punch amp rated for 4x25 but is supposed to really put out twice that due to conservative ratings?
4: Buy an additional 2x25 or 2x50 amp and electronic crossover.

54RegCab,
If you like the sound from your Sherwood amp, I would opt for option 4. A good bridgeable 2x50 amp, bridged into a 4 ohm load, will produce 200W for the bridged channel. This will make a decent sub channel. There are plenty of good low price 2way active crossovers on the market.

** Pioneer CD Player, Infinity 57.1CS components up front, Polk 572a's in back, MTX 5000 Thunderform subs, 300 Watt Soundstream Amp for sub, Rockford Fosgate 400a4 for front/rear, Audio Control EQX, Streetwires Power Distribution
