High Voltage/Low Impedance preouts more and more are becoming standard on high end head units. Pioneer units feature 4V/100ohm preouts. This type of preout uses the higher voltage to drown out noise in the system (higher SNR). Good power/ground distribution and proper patch cable routing coupled with high voltage preouts will eliminate noise problems. Here is a link to some good articles on car audio design and setup. www.termpro.com.
