has anyone installed the new pioneer 6X8's. I know pioneer makes good stuff otherwise, but i didn't know how good their 2 and 3-way speakers are?

Thanks,
Chris

I used to sell stereo equipment a few years ago, and have a little (very) bit of experience with this stuff. One of the reasons for replacing the amp in your system is to make sure that the signal you are sending to your speakers is good a "clean" one. If you add high quality replacement speakers to your truck, but fail to deliver a "clean" signal to them, you stand the chance of damaging them. The reason for this is that if you want to listen to your music at high volume but do not have an amp that is powerful enough to deliver that strong of a signal, the amp will deliver a "clipped" signal to the speakers. You get the volume, but not the quality. The problem is that when the signal is "clipped", the speaker is wide open to getting damaged. This is how you "blow" a speaker. Best advice is make sure you have enough amp to power your speakers with a good quality signal. This most often means replacing the amp along with the speakers. The stock amps rarely are good enough for this. The factory head unit should do just fine for most purposes. If you are playing CD's, the quality sound should be just as good as what you would get from a replacement head unit. Like the guys above, I think it's great to keep the factory head unit and have a "sleeper" sound system. Less chance of someone filching it! Hope this offers you some help.

Can I replace/add an amp to the stock stereo??? I have an Eclipse CD Deck (which i am selling if anyone is interested) from my last car that i was planning on installing in the new truck, but i like the stock ford cd changer/tape combo in the truck.

I want to be able add a subwoofer one day (soon) and drive some replacement speakers. Does the stock head unit have RCA pre-outs? Has anyone replaced the stock amp with a real amp, KEEPING the stock head unit??

Thanks
