Cd Error??

Hey All,
I just got my '04 Scab 4x4, and when i hit the CD button on the dash, it says CD error and continues to play the radio without missing a beat (haha, literally). When i try to eject a CD, assuming there is one in there, is says CD error. I think my truck has the 6 CD changer in it, because when i hit the eject button, i have to select a number from 1 to 6 to eject. Any one have any experience with this?
Thanks

Does anyone know how to get into the dash where the CD changer is to see if there is a jammed CD in there?

you need to pull the unit. Pop the plastic fascia cover that surrounds the head unit off. Then un blolt the HU. Unplug it and you can try to open it up and see if you can fix it. If not, OEM head units are cheap on ebay. $100 or so with mp3.

Thanks for your input Buzzz. I was just wondering how that fascia pops off of there. I pulled/pryed on it a little bit, but it didnt pop off yet and i dont want to break it. I havent had much luck with previous vehicles when i pull on plastic pieces. Thanks again.

Open the ash tray and start pulling carefully on the plastic, a little bit on each side and work your way up. Sometimes the clips stay stuck in the dash, and you will have to use needle nose pliers to remove them and put them on the bezel before reinstalling it. As far as the radio goes, try unplugging and plugging it back in several times. I had a problem with one and i did that and smacked the radio on the top and bottom a couple of times to jar it, and it started working. Good luck....

Don't waste your time. The CD mech is broken. We service these units on a daily basis. Picture the changer like an elevator - it has a timer in it which delegates how far the cd trays move within the changer. The timer gets off which acts like an elevator stopping between floors. The timer is not repairable so the mech has to be replaced. Ford as well as other manufacturers consider their radios disposable when they break so they don't offer replacement parts beyond the CD mech as a whole. The repair would cost about $300 - ouch, I know! You can thank Ford for that!

I would assume i still have to get into the dash some how before i can unplug it eh? Also, if i need to pull out the CD player, do i need a special tool from ford or can it be done some other way? I was told that you need a puller from ford...
Thanks
