Unhappy "no dj" prob's again

Hi all! been down and out of the f150 forums for a while(spending too much time @ work, school and bike forums ) but have been wanting to get my cd changer prob fixed for a while now. I've read TONS on here about what to do about that pesky "no dj" mess. when you hit the cd button, but pretty much all it ever turns out to be is a loose wire or bad unit. anyway, finally took today and pulled everything apart to get to the changer (and lift rear seat a little more--planning for some extra sound ) . so here's what i got- power to the changer (the mag. will eject correctly truck switched on or off), discs are loaded correctly, and checked all wires @ harness for loose/disconnected ones (on changer and rear of radio) and all seemed ok. maybe one or two a little loose, but none that pulled out or seemed disconnected. am i missing something here...if so what? or is changer just shot? any tests that can be performed w/multimeter?

if it is shot, what are some x-ref #'s to look for? my part# on changer is F5FF-18C830-XX can't make out the last two. (been checking the net already to try n find a good price on one) surely ford has replaced the p/n i have w/something updated/compatible. did notice a sticker on the unit--"Exchanged Unit" and the dealer who exchanged it 4/1997...or was it 98...anyway
ANY help is appreciated guys and thanks
--oh yea, way off topic but where in the blue blazes is the orifice tube for the A/C?--never have had this much trouble finding one on a vehicle before--
thanks again and will try to post some pics of the new system install(box subs etc) if it goes through.
--pat--

just bringing back to the top. no responses!?! man, all must be as stumped as i am unless i hit the nail on the head w/the changer being shot.
still have everything apart waiting and trying to decide what to do--i have 2 in dash CD HU's i could use in leiu of buying a "new" changer (there's a place on ebay that does an exchange program-pay 115 for a repaired one, they send it w/1 year warr. and a pre-paid label to return your non working one to them).
all the install of the hu would cost is about $25 for a harness, dash kit and shipping.

Well, I just had the same problem, and I think I solved it. I checked the CD magazine itself, and noticed that it is harder than it should be to push the little white levers to eject a single CD (and it makes a little of a grinding sound). I traded with a friend for his magazine, and no probs at all. I'm going to try to pull the magazine apart and clean it, and if that doesnt work, I'll just buy a new one.
