ya i have seen that thing, where u can shave the antenna mount, and do the one under ur dash, or where ever... and i thought about that.. but.. i know nothing about shaving, body filler, or painting on a vehicle, and dont want to mess it up..

I cut down the factory antenna on my mustang. I cut it in half and pulled the ball off the end. Then opened the hole in the ball a little with a dremel and epoxied it on the new end. Primed and sprayed it satin black. Looks good, works ok. I don't use the radio much anyway, so I don't care about reception too much.

Picked up this little guy up at a local car show flea market for $2.00. Guy said it was from a company called Antenna-X. It didn't have the screw in adapters, but I rigged something up from junk I had laying around the garage. Radio reception nowhere near as good as the factory antenna, especially when I travel away from the city. Locally it's fine, and no more banging the garage door. I keep the stock antenna under the front seat and throw it back on when I go camping out in the boonies.
